Ukas løype or the race of the week started again. This is a Army tradition that goes many years back. Each wednesday during summer I organize and orienteering race for officers and soldiers. The controls are out for a week before they are transferred to a new place.
Fieldwork has had a slow start this year because of a winterly landscape. Almost like in the old days when winter never ended and no green trees for 17. of May.
Back in Bodø after 3 months in the amazing country of Ukraine! I took part in 3 competitions in Kiev, excellent maps and a lot of young runners recruited from schools.
Today I had a meeting with cartographer Viktor Kirianov in Kiev. A very skilled mapper and it was amazing to hear how they managed to organize the World Championships here in Kiev in 2007 with limited resources, and to see all the interesting maps that are to be found around the city. Attached is one of the maps that Viktor has made. It is also my nearest training forest close to where I live.
